Biography

Steve Pond was born in Worcester Massachusettes late in the baby boomer age, grew up in Auburn, Mass and graduated from Drew University with a Liberal Arts degree (major in psychology). He then moved to Edmonton Alberta with the idea of obtaining a Master's degree from the University of Alberta's Linguistics Department. That never happened since he soon found than psycholinquistics was more like playing crosswords for money than an actual scientific pursuit. After a few more moves he has settled in Montreal, Canada for the last eleven years with his wife and son of 30 months.

He was given his first fish tank when he was ten, back in the days of stainless steel aquariums and black caulking. The first filtration system he used was an air pump with an inside box corner filter. He soon moved up to the "Slim Jim" outside air driven filter and basically never looked back. I have watched and enjoyed as the hobby has grown and matured through piston pumps to the Silent Giant and on up to the present generations of Power Heads driving sophisticated under gravel systems. Standard filtration has progressed from the air driven box filter through Dynaflow, Biozonic 3 Stage and Supreme Aqua King filters. The growth from there to the present AquaClear and Fluval Canister has been rapid and profound, with the resulting success of aquarists becoming more consistent and the novice having greater ability to keep their fish healthy and happy. With the introduction of Trickle filters, superior lighting and protein skimmers, the growth and success rate with marine specimens has added to my joy within the hobby.

He has kept fish as a hobby for over 33 years, and has been lucky enough to turn that passion into his life's career, being variously employed in fish wholesale, pet retail, pet dry goods wholesale and presently as the person people ask the hard questions on livestock and dry goods no one else is willing to answer in a well respected pet manufacturing corporation that distributes its products on a global basis.

His duties at present include consumer relations, copy writing for technical manuals on the electrical products, sales literature and consumer information material for his company. He has been perfroming these tasks for the last decade, as well as having a hand in the design and specifications of most of the electrical products released to the public during that time.

In addition, one of his more pleasant duties has been to travel as a lecturer for his company, offering insights into the philosophy and operation of the filters in the line. These trips have included stops through most of Canada, the USA, Australia and the African Continent.
